10 reviews for Timex Men’s Expedition Katmai Combo 40mm Watch

Serviceable budget watch from a known brand – When my employer instituted a ban on smartwatches, I had to scramble for a suitable workday replacement. My work is specialized, and I have specific needs in a timepiece. It has to be rugged. It must include a countdown timer with audible alarm. It must have a functional rotating bezel to measure elapsed time when the timer is already in use. Given manual work in tight spaces, it has to be smaller & thinner than other popular offerings. With the “home office” on another continent, dual timezones are a necessity. Water resistance goes without saying. Hybrid analog/digital display suits my own preferences, and the two stay synched to the second. Finally, I need all these things in an inexpensive package, since a wrong move on my part could wreck a non-metal case. This watch delivers on all fronts. The orange accents are nice, but so much white seemed overwhelming. I colored in the numbers and tick marks on the bezel with a black dry-erase marker to great result; since they’re recessed, they’re still readable and the overall look is much more subtle. Be mindful that the acrylic crystal scuffs easily. Overall a fine work watch unless you favor something the size of a hockey puck on your wrist.

Great watch for the price with a few quirks – First things first, this watch is great value for the price. If you try to compare the competition to get an analog watch, with a chronographs and Day/Date display Timex wins almost every time. And the Indiglo backlight is HUGE because if you get a Timex with a white/light face, the Indiglo backlight is superior to every other backlight there is (Indiglo doesn’t work as well on a black face…it works…kinda, but it’s 10x better on a white face).

Luminox? Not so fast… – This is the watch I wanted when I bought the Casio G-shock that dissolved upon exposure to ordinary bug spray. I need to know the time regardless of ambient lighting conditions and this Timex watch performs beautifully. One can spend ten times the cost of this Timex on a Luminox to perform the same task. The difference is that with the Luminox no button need be pressed to tell time in the dark owing to radioactive tritium that is guaranteed to glow continuously for 25 years (two half-life’s of tritium). This feature may be mission-critical and therefore justify the expense. For my purposes, however, this Timex Indiglo watch meets my needs at a fraction of the cost, but at the expense of having to press a button once to read time in the dark.

    – Buen diseño y, para mi gusto, bastante estético en un reloj “informal”. La única razón por la cual no le pongo cinco estrellas es que el sonido del segundero es muy fuerte en comparación con otros relojes en donde es prácticamente imperceptible.

    – I would have preferred the original band color as shown. Instead, it’s a much darker taupe, so doesn’t look great with the white face and orange accents. Amazon/Timex, please be consistent with how your merchandise shows!
